Pets as therapy, companions, joy-bringers, motivators, exercisers, soothers…. Being with animals is one of the best, and simplest ways of improving hospital experience for everyone, and lots of wards are finding creative ways around the obstacles.
How food is presented makes a big difference to patients’ experience of meals, and is very important in relation to eating, nutrition and health as well as making patients feel valued and looked after.
There are zillions of books, gurus, websites and Post-it notes in the shape of company logos, all designed to help staff and customers feel appreciated. We can now reveal the Star Wards’ take on all this. Three words: “Thank you for…..” Oh. And another three: “Well done for….”

Night-time on wards can be relaxed and satisfying, or deeply fraught and disturbed. Many patients require high levels of care, there are many of the same tasks and challenges as earlier in the day plus many other duties and dilemmas particular to the night. Sleep being the obvious one.
